SMG: CHINESE NEW YEAR TEMPERATURE RUMORS ARE FAKE

The local weather bureau has clarified that rumours spreading online about freezing temperatures over the Lunar New Year are not true.

The message spreading across social media claimed that temperatures would drop to minus 2 degrees Celsius on Lunar New Year's eve and the period would be the 'coldest Spring Festival in history'.

However, the weather bureau says the estimate is 'unreasonable' and asks the public not to share 'unconfirmed information from unofficial sources'.

Noting that it is difficult to issue weather forecasts more than 10 days before.

According to the bureau, the lowest estimated temperature over the next seven days is 8 degrees Celsius, on Monday the 18th.
